Taking Shape
I grew up playing basketball and I was really determined to get into the WNBA. That was my one and only goal. When basketball was kind of taken away from me, I found myself in the world of modeling. I was suddenly very aware of my body. I started identifying my worth as what my body size was. The gym became this place for me to shrink in my size. That brought me into a really dark place with my body and my mental health. And it wasn't until I was diagnosed with an eating disorder that I realized I had really hit rock bottom. Healing my relationship with my body is when I kind of found that strength again, when I got to have fun in the gym again. I look at movement as a way to bring me happiness and I've become really passionate about changing the industries that had harmed me. Go, Jenna. Yep. Keep going. Keep going. Drive. Drive. Drive. I have that great honor of teaching those same principles to my clients to disconnect from this obsessive need that we have to fit beauty standards. And I'm able to teach them how to throw a punch and feel empowered in their movement and in their body. This isn't the life I imagined when I was young. But to be honest, it's better.

Jackie Stanczyk
This mini-doc tells the story of Jackie Stanczyk, whose journey of resilience and self-discovery moves from early athletic ambition to modeling, and ultimately toward recovery and reclamation.
Jackie’s story is one of transformation and resilience—of rebuilding a relationship with herself and her life. It stands as a reminder of how complex identity and becoming can be, and how finding yourself and your purpose rarely follows a straight line.
Today, she is a trainer, coach, speaker, and advocate. She helps clients build a healthier relationship with movement and their bodies—focusing on how they feel, not what the scale or progress photos show. She also advocates for dismantling diet culture and promoting body liberation, from the gym to broader public health conversations.
"Entrusting someone to tell your story is never easy, but Jason and his team made the entire experience incredibly enjoyable. Everyone on set brought a level of professionalism, kindness, and efficiency that truly stood out. Easily one of the best production experiences I’ve ever had.
Working with Jason, I always feel confident knowing what to expect, yet I’m still blown away every time I see the final product. His work speaks for itself: cinematic, stunning, emotional, and deeply authentic. There’s simply no one better!"

Director’s Statement
I’ve been friends with Jackie for years. We’ve worked together on a variety of projects, telling other stories. This is the first time we’ve told hers.
As a subject, Jackie is compelling because she holds contradiction so naturally—strong presence and unguarded vulnerability, resilience and softness. There’s a warmth and complexity to her that feels deeply human.
The story is deeply personal, but it also holds something larger—the timeless questions about who we are and how we live. These are the kind of stories that move me as a director, and it was an honor to use Jackie’s experience as a way of exploring that space.
Creative Approach
The piece is built around a conversational voiceover, keeping Jackie’s story grounded and human. Visually, we move across different textures and timeframes—blending archival modeling footage, stylized flashbacks, and present-day footage.
The flashbacks are split between childhood and early adulthood. The childhood moments are more impressionistic and dreamlike—less literal, shaped by the way memory softens and abstracts over time. The adult flashbacks are more grounded, with Jackie in frame, drawing on her experience modeling and her comfort in front of the camera.
That language shifts into more kinetic, performance-driven training sequences, before opening into scenes of community—showing where she is now, and what that space has become for her.
Producer’s Note
Capturing the facets and breadth of a woman's relationship with her body is no small feat, and we are grateful to Jackie for letting us in for a small part of it. We were able to film at One Way Boxing in Chicago; the well-designed, industrial space offered a wide variety of camera angles, and allowed us to capture both the intensity and camaraderie of strength training.
“This piece - which we lovingly call our ‘Jackie Doc’ - was crafted with intentionality and care from beginning to end. We spent a day with her in her gym: her athletic intensity is matched equally by her joy, and her athletic expertise is a spectacle to behold. We are so excited to launch our first official Charter Mini-Doc with her story.”
